Unread posts search

#1

Post by Leeward »

I noticed this way back when the phpBB upgrade (fuckup) happened, the "unread posts" link disappeared from wherever it used to be. Didn't bother me though because I had bookmarked the URL. Evidently the preconfigured search still exists, hence the URL still working. However, there is no link to it anywhere, nor can you start it from the advanced search. I think there should be a link to it next to the "new posts" link up top.

FYI: search.php?search_id=unreadposts

We can modify the template to include it. But on the default theme (and the one I use), you can get to it by clicking the button to the left of the "Forums" link just under the logo. It looks like 3 lines under each other. I agree that it is not the most obvious of places to look for it, though.

Ah yes, I didn't think to look there, thank you. Yeah it's pretty terrible design to hide it in there, especially with the redundant "new posts" making it seem like that's the only place to find preconfigured searches.

Agreed. Not a layout choice I would have made.

What is more annoying is the "mark forums as read" button that you accidentally click when you miss-click the link... Hahahaha!

I have done this about 3 times. So upsetting. Lol, I guess that is what the 'new posts' button is for. :p

Changing my browser shortcut from the 'home page' to the 'unread posts' page improved my forumming experience so much.
I think it was Contrast to first told me what it meant. I used to think 'unread posts' was the opposite function of 'mark all read'. :P

I used to scroll down the homepage middle-mouseclicking all the red ones and then doing the same on all the subforums. So much effort :P

I think this topic should end before the forum becomes too meta.
