Forum maintainance and updates - 10/04/2020

I plan to do some maintenance and updates for the forum tomorrow. It will be unavailable for some time in the afternoon but should all be back and working fine without too much of a delay.

Updates are all completed successfully. We're now running the latest version of phpBB and all our extensions are fully updated too. The version change did cause some problems where a number of extensions needed to have manual changes made but it should all be done. For most of you, you should not see any actual changes (although I think the top of the page is looking a bit different).

For about 5 or 6 of you who were using the Digi theme instead of the default, you will now be seeing the Black theme. This was due to the way the upgrade had to be done. It's possible to go into your settings and change back to the Digi theme or even new versions of Black with slightly different colour schemes.

If anything is not working, make a note of it here and then I can try to fix it.

A bit odd, it seems like some of the forum elements have a different scale now.
When going to subforums, the topics seem to show up much smaller than in the past. Maybe not the worst thing, but it is a noticeable difference, for me at least.
Edit: the header is also larger now. It seems a bit unnecessary.

Some things don't look right. The search bar is covering the moon.
And the top bar looks oversized.

One I've noticed is that the navigation bar doesn't display anything further than board index right now.

Edit: Just a basic check tells me that a couple of the display issues are theme related. That could be more complicated. The theme we are using was changed a bit in its newer version and apparently that has caused some conflicts.

It seems like the problems we have are mostly display related. I will look into them on Saturday and hopefully get them fixed.

That's got nothing to do with the forum and everything to do with the browser and weird web standards. There is an add-on for Firefox which is supposed to fix it.

I think it's just one of those things that pops up as some stuff updates and others remain on older versions or insecurities are patched.

Edit: I just wanted that to show as a URL but it wants to load a whole preview. :/

I don't think it's related to that.

I fixed the version of the theme which now means the "Board index > The Townhall > Announcements and Rules" navigation bar works correctly.

I also replaced the logo files again, including the one which loads for mobile. So that should be fixed.

I found an extra configuration file which was actually written for another theme but I modified it and now the moon doesn't get in the way and displays correctly. At least it does on a desktop, it might behave differently at different screen sizes. That also solves the problem of the header being abnormally large.

The text might be smaller than it used to be. Unfortunately, editing the forum theme is a bit more complicated so I haven't tried to do that right now. One possible solution would just be to zoom in slightly (e.g. 110%) with the browser. When I tested in Firefox and Brave on the desktop, the forum elements all seemed to scale correctly and the zoom remained specific to the forum only. If it also holds after closing the browser, that might be a possible solution.

I know this is still an issue from before the upgrade, but it is still kinda annoying: embedded YouTube videos are still coming up too large. Just a reminder, no rush on this old stuff if you still have other issues caused by the update.

Fine, fine. I've fixed the "problem." They're now all small.

It would be a problem. I mean. You can't see the video.

What are you people using that has such low resolution? My phone screen has even higher resolution than my desktop.

The YouTube video resolution is now good on my desktop (1366x768), so thanks! That's been bothering my OCD-ish tendencies a bit since I noticed it, haha.
