Halloween is now just less than a week away. Like last year, I have allowed users to change their usernames so you can use spooky Halloween names. This is for people to have fun but please do not abuse the privilege. This will remain active until a few days after Halloween so you can reset your names.

How will we go about this? Still uneditable under CP.

You should be able to do it from User Control Panel > Profile > Edit Account Settings. If it's not available there then I will have to look closer when I get home.

Nope. Not editable. Cleared browser cookies etc...

I can see it, but cannot edit it.

Maybe you only allowed admins to edit/change it? Or just yourself? Or maybe the site has not updated it?

There were some other permissions that needed changing. All forum members should now be able to change their names. They must be changed back within a week after Halloween. After that point I will remove the ability to change usernames again. If it goes well then maybe we'll do it next year too.

Which is why it's not allowed for the rest of the year.

This might turn into a kind of "masquerade party." Should be interesting.

For posterity sake, I'll keep my avatar.
In before people start stealing other people's avatars

Soon, you will all burn you miserable wretches, in the fiery pits of ash and sulfur.

Right. Halloween is over. Please change all your names back. I will be locking names again in a week and they must be back to normal.

Ah well, it was fun, so thanks for enabling it Rakuen! :)

Hopefully next year we can do it again, and perhaps organize some fun events to go along with it.

Well it looks like everyone who's posted in here has changed back as asked, so I would certainly consider it. It was kinda fun to watch.

I rate we should, seeing as how everyone was so well behaved last year. :)

Sorry, I know it's long off but I'm thinking about it now cause we're planning our halloween party already.
We usually go quite big for the day.
So far we have 26 people on board doing a marvel vs DC theme

Even my phone supports it on Chrome. Safari displays it, ie displays it, opera displays it and firefox displays it. What freaking browsers do you guys use?

It must be the language pack or something.

Where could I get a language pack then?

The simplest way is to download and install a sufficiently large font, such as Symbola, and use Firefox or Chrome.

The problem is twofold. First, the text contains combining diacritic marks that are not supported by the fonts shipped with Win XP. There are some free fonts that you can use to fix this. Second, IE is poor at rendering characters when no font listed in the applicable font-family list covers a character in an HTML document. Chrome and Firefox do a much better job; even Firefox 3, which I tested in a virtual Windows XP system seems to handle the situation OK: it picks up the missing characters from other fonts in the system.

In addition to pages that play with combining diacritic marks in a childish way, there are real pages that make use of such marks. So it’s good to be prepared. There is no single font that covers all characters, so just install additional fonts as needed; Alan Wood has a nice page for downloading fonts with large character repertoires
