Re: Kubuntu help

Some days I tend to feel I come from a different age in computing compared to most people I meet, having seen some stuff most only heard rumours about. I started off on a CBM-64, then up to MS-DOS (started at 3, ended at 6), Win 3.1, ran OS/2 and OS/2 Warp when Win95 came out. On my personal machine...

Re: Kubuntu help

Pity you don't live close to me, I would have tried to help you out. Here's what a quick search on the net brought up, all the packages should be on the CD. http://tech-buzz.net/2006/07/26/how-to-access-internet-dsl-using-kubuntu-ubuntu/ and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=699771 Unfortunat...

Re: Machine reboot?

Yeah the PSU does sound likely. Don't have ZoneAlarm installed, using AVG right now. I will definitely clean out my connectors when I get a chance and check them, otherwise I will try to get a stronger PSU.

Re: The person above game.

The furson above would fit into my living room decor.

(I don't have a pic yet, but imagine a all-black anthro wolf with a lighter belly)

Re: Machine reboot?

Thanks for all your help :) The machine is already SP2, and I made very sure it's up to date. There's a few minor updates like WMP 11 missing, but nothing that screams "stability" at me. Specs: AMD X2 5600+ CPU GA-M55SLI-S4 Motherboard 2 x 1GB DDR2 Gigabyte 7300 GT Seagate 120GB PATA Seagate 200GB P...

Re: Machine reboot?

Thanks, Tiger. No need to rush, though, I was asking more for my own info and peace of mind. I suppose the PSU could be the issue, but that will be hard to test. My CPU is not overclocked at all, in fact I used Cool&Quiet to bring the temperature down (mainly to see if I can reduce my electricity bi...

Machine reboot?

I'm gonna start the thread here, but I am not sure if it's hardware or software-related. Guess it could be either. Sometimes my (fully updated) WinXP SP2 machine would just decide to reboot. No BSOD STOP error or similar occurs (had that a few times too, though). Like just now, I was busy opening so...

Skype

I think it would be cool if Skype could be added to a user's profile as well as a means of contact.

Re: Long distance relationships?

The hardest thing I have found was the cultural and language differences. From simple things like the word pancake (over there it is what I would call a flapjack), to moral and political issues. A lot of Americans (especially) are very closed-minded, believing they are innately superior (financially...

Re: The great emigration debate

I am in much the same boat as Keita. Even if visas were not an issue, would it be fair of me to ask my mate to come here? Give up everything in the US and start a new life here? Or is it more fair of me to go there? Hard choice, yeah, but unfortunately I can't see the government planning very well t...

Well, I rarely introduce myself on forums. Anyways, I am a black-furred wolf, and usually shy around new people. Living in Randburg right now.

Re: Long distance relationships?

Well, July I will be having my 4th anniversary with a fur in California. So yes, it can work out, if you work at it :)
