3D printed rapid prototyping for firearms is not to try and make a working gun, it's to build a mockup of the working parts to test if the mechanism work smoothly before you build it out of expensive high quality metals.

I'm well aware, my father is a gunsmith. Surely a trigger guard, pistol grip, or other non-mechanical part doesn't need the precision and rigidity of metal. I mean, grips are frequently made of wood or rubber, so why not 3-D printing medium?

Wood and bakelite are fairly sturdy by themselves, and rubber is almost always just a cover over a metal base, but doesn't always need that metal base since it's flexible and strong. The plastic used in 3D printing however tends to be quite brittle and can't hold up against the recoil of a bullet unless you're using very high quality printers and materials that are highly expensive anyways and don't serve any advantage over machined parts.

Also note that while grips might often be plastic or wood, trigger guards almost never are, they need to be strong or else the gun is dangerously prone to accidental discharge.

The only stress a trigger gaurd may experience is when you drop the gun...

Many very expensive guns, like the Manlichters, have plastic trigger gaurds...
Many modern pistols are made entirely of plastic, save for the slide...
Assault riles?
So, I do not agree with you there...

Granted, that tends to be some sort of hardened polymer type plastics... But plastic none the less...

Bakelite lets see oh I remember now we use it to keep High voltage cables separated from each other where we have 3000 volt 6000 volt and 11000 volt applications.

Those Elbrox Insulators?

I fixed the feeding issue... Now I can leave it alone for printing!

It's a little me!
For the most part, it is pointless to be sad in life.
Because sad spelt backwards is das
And das not good
Love every stranger, the stranger the better
The darker the night, the brighter I glow!

The one on the left is quite unique.

Do I have a volunteer? XD?

If I had white and blue Fillament, I could have tried out the dual extrusion... That would have looked awesome too!

Wait, where's my question about what causes the strange artifacting?

Do you have to file it down by hand?

Ummmm... "Strange artifacting"?

Because of Sonics hair, it was impossible to print him upright, the supports didn't hold, therefore I printed him on his face, unfortunately, the supports then stick to his face, hence more rounding has to be done...

Then Id be wasting too much meterial on the supports, and the hair(Spines?) would still be a problem...
