Games for couples... recommendations?

#1

Post by Leeward »

So I need some help. I'm looking for PC, Wii or PS3 games that are 2-player co-op. Preferably PC, but nothing that can't run on an old decrepit rig (i.e. nothing more resource-intensive than TF2). Genres can be pretty much anything, but avoiding RTS. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if these are quite what you're looking for, but my sister and I have enjoyed playing these games co-op. Some of these are probably quite obvious, but I'll list them here just in case.

***Terraria
***Project Zomboid (Early Access Game)
***Starbound (Early Access Game; Runs okay on my computer and mine chugs on TF2)
***Baldur's Gate Series
***Diablo 2
***Hidden And Dangerous
***Commandos Series (I'm not sure if this counts as RTS.)
***Magicka (Doesn't run on mine; requirements might be too heavy.)
***Call of Duty: World At War (Despite the graphics, it can run surprisingly well on lower end computers. Nazi zombies mode is better than the campaign co-op.)
***Rainbow Six: Lockdown (Features South Africa!)
**Icewind Dale Series
**Neverwinter Nights 2 (Never played the first one. Will probably run.)
**Silverfall (Might not run.)
**Codename: Outbreak (We never got the full version, but we used to play the heck out of the demo. That was long ago, so it might just be nostalgia.)
*Darkstone (Diablo rip-off. Decent enough)

Number of *'s = Level of recommendation.

Edit: With a lot of the RPGs, the one player decides on the story choices and such, while the other player just tags along. Personally I still enjoy it, but others might not.

All great suggestions, except maybe Diablo II: my mate has played it so much he knows the game inside-out, and I had no idea what I was doing and died all the time trying to follow him. Needless to say we both got very frustrated and it did not end well. I'll suggest some of those, thanks.

Not sure about Mario Kart.
Nintendo games have always been ridiculously fun for local multiplayer, but I swear if you throw another blasted blue shell at me I'm going to... Ahem.

Minecraft? It's really fun, building a world together

Borderlands 1/2. Both great fun

Dungeon defenders. Tower defence meets hack and slash

God Mode. Awesomely fun, for a short while (I wish they'd just add more maps...)

Killing Floor. Zombie survival

Left 4 dead 2. Not much to say...

Lord of the rings - war in the north.

That's about my lan coop list. Great games ^^

Terraria +1, really fun game to play with your mate: VoxLupus and I built a magnificent citadel, complete with all kinds of furnishings, trophies from monsters we had slain, as well as a network of satellites and space stations (in space) connect by teleportation pads.

Titan Quest
Portal 2
Orcs Must Die 2
Diablo 3 (It's more noob friendly than Diablo 2, and is available on PS3 ;) )
Uh... this is hard, get a better PC O.o"
Hahaha!

^^ Portal 2 definitely, but make sure you have a working mic :P However for longevity it's not the BEST value for money.

And Left 4 Dead 2 is awesome! All L4D 1 maps are re-mastered and included, the coop elements are top-rate and there is so much free content it's ridiculous. I'd absolutely join you for a play-though ;)

Borderlands 1 has similar specs, not that sure about 2? Might have to minimize settings to get it right.

CourteousCastellan has listed some great low-cost games, too bad you missed the sale that just went by, most of the stuff listed hits 50-75% off when they're up.

If you go for old games from before the internet and lans were common you can even play co-op on the same PC. Go Tyrian!

We tried Army of Two on PS3 but I'm not used to first person view with those controllers so that was lame. Gears of War, Black Ops and Halo 3 I don't think my PC could run, unfortunately. Portal 2 we've got and plan to play. I'll look into getting the Simpsons game for the Wii, I think that will be a nice Xmas present because it'll also be an inside joke for us. Thanks! :D
