Re: What are you doing RIGHT NOW?
I could try sorting out my furry pictures (and so find some things to post... somewhere...)
I could spend a while poking round the net for new pictures.
Or I can go read Ander
OR!!! I can fucking make a game in RPGmaker
Hmmm...
A lil game design faff -> sort pictures -> get into bed and read ander
Ok. plan set.

How about the fact that I don't like the fact that I know too many people who have died from biking accidents where they were speeding? Or idiots hit them. My car used to be my mom's, and she named it "Netke" after the licence plates it originally had, NTK- some numbers. When it starts it makes a similar noise: "Nuhht-kuh-kuh-kuh-kuh-kuh-kuh".Sev wrote:the Viffer
For some reason that name you derived from the model seems unintentionally (yet appropriately) onomatopoeic too.

Viffer is a common name for VFRs, much like Gixxer is a common name for GSX-Rs.

No, I get Fluke's point: unnecessarily endangering one's life by any means is stupid, and dying stupidly is tragic. And also sometimes even funny, that's why the Darwin Awards exist. To me it sounds reasonable to want to prevent that, especially when it is so easily avoided.Helios_phi wrote:So if you ride a bike, your an idiot.Fluke wrote:How about the fact that I don't like the fact that I know too many people who have died from biking accidents where they were speeding? Like those 7 people who died when the challenger rocket exploded. That was hilerious.Leeward wrote:No, I get Fluke's point: unnecessarily endangering one's life by any means is stupid, and dying stupidly is tragic. Let's stop space travel to prevent that in future.
That is seriously endangering ones one life.
You people live in these little plastic bubbles terrified of death.
No matter what you do. You ARE GOING TO DIE one day. There is nothing you can do to prevent that. Your body will be eaten by maggots. Deal with that.
You're going to be 80 years old lying in a bed dying of nothing and your life is going to flash before your eyes and it's going to be pretty pasty and bland if you think 180km is fast.
Most of you won't even make it to 80. Probably 70 or 60.
So if you're 20 right now. Let's consider it a rough third of your life is over. Now remove another 2 thirds of the estimated time you have left for the amount of time you spend sleeping and working. You have around 15 years left over to live. 7 of which you'll probably waste spending time watching TV or cooking or stuck in traffic or time wasted in front of your computer.
So you have maybe 8 years of your life to actually live.
I hope you don't have kids to take care of or any desire to work overtime and climb the corporate ladder cause that would really eat into that precious time.
Time is so short. Enjoy it. Because if you die, you're only going to miss out on 20 years of sleeping and 20 years of working to get money to pay for shit you don't need.

Re: What are you doing RIGHT NOW?
The Challenger incident happened during a mission in the name of science. There may be risks involved, but they were for an actual cause, not just for shits and giggles. It doesn't even compare.
I'm not saying never to take risks, I'm just saying calculated ones are wiser to take than meaningless ones. I've made peace with the fact that I am going to die, and I'm comfortable with it. That doesn't mean I need to seek thrills, adrenalin rushes and petty rebellion to feel alive. I enjoy my time without pointlessly endangering my life (and breaking the law simultaneously).
I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life, that's your prerogative. All I'm saying is that biking is dangerous because in an accident, the biker always comes out second best, regardless of whose fault it was. When you ride, you are not only putting yourself at risk, you are also threatening those who care about you with losing you prematurely over enjoying life. That seems rather ironic to me.

Yes you are, You chimed your two cents into a conversation between Fluke and the world of motorbikes of your own accord, no one invited you to do it.Leeward wrote:I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life, that's your prerogative.

You said ANY means, but now you change your mind. So dying for Science is okay. How about religious martydom? Shall we rule that one out now as stupid too or leave it in so your argument can change again later?Leeward wrote:The Challenger incident happened during a mission in the name of science. False
I am not responsible for anybody but myself.
I do not rely on others. I do for myself.
If others rely on me, well now that's their stupidity.
