What are you doing RIGHT NOW?

The place to talk about anything just generally furry. If you have a furry-related thread that doesn't fit anywhere else, put it here! Just keep it clean.

Lol, it is about Ander, but don't worry, it's not a spoiler. I had to delete four pages worth of content because, in editing, I found a way to streamline the crucial information in just a few paragraphs, making the rest redundant. It reads much better now, but still, deleting four pages... eish. Not fun.

The pretoria campus stopped striking! Yay!! But now the Witbank campus's students decided that they're gonna strike....
For F#CKS SAKE! What the hell do you achive by simply refusing to work? In the end they're gonna have to work harder to get they're grades up... But see... They simply don't WANT to work... Its just tooo convenient to stand around all day cuz they're "striking"

And in the end, its students like me, and a few others(albeit FEW) That you can see, is there to STUDY... Not do stupid little dances.... URG!

I don't know why people want to protect strikes. It seems to me that there are very few instances when it's justified and, in South Africa, they tend to just be destructive. I've had my preparations to travel delayed because of a 3-4 week long strike in the postal services.

But onto what I'm doing now. Waiting for my connection to calm down so I can play Dota. For some reason the ping goes to the hundreds or thousands when I open the game and eventually goes back to around 50. It's really odd. It got worse when I recently updated my computer but I've also heard Telkom is messing about with cables.

Freedom of expression, freedom of association and the freedom to peacefully assemble are protected rights under the Constitution. Of course, strikes often turns violent, and at that point it should become unprotected. But you cannot deny a person basic guaranteed rights.

So... The y demanded more money, more free things... And they want to pay less? And the burned down someone elses bus in doing so? Sounds incredibly reasonable and peaceful to me...
The thing is, refusing to bring your part does more damage than solve problems... In the end people suffer...
Like the strike in that town... Not shure where... They completely destroyed the economy! Its practically a ghost town now! The factory sustained the economy there, and they started striking... Soon they town couldn't sustain itself anymore.... The factory closed and everyone lost their jobs....

Not sure those are really relevant in the situation though. You couldn't claim those freedoms to get together with a bunch of friends and just start talking about your thoughts in a cinema. There are appropriate times and places that need to be taken into consideration.

In any case striking is different still. It's usually used as a negotiating tactic. To me, all it is is breaking a contract. If they are employed to work in agreed upon conditions for agreed upon remuneration then they have no business striking unless the employer has broken those conditions.

Companies used to pay their employees in company scrip. This was quite legal under the contract, and unions made this go away.

Enjoy the current 40-hour work week that are standard? Again, unions, refusing to adhere to company contracts.

I actually misquoted the Constitution:

My biggest issue with protests in this country is the complete lack of logic and undue sense of entitlement:

"I'm not happy with existing sanitary infrastructure, let me destroy all the toilets (including those that don't belong to me) so that everyone including myself has to $H1T in the street until they give us better toilets! Which may never happen because the government can't afford it/isn't willing to spend on that right now! I don't care about anyone's well-being, I demand things be given to me because I deserve them and am not willing to lift a finger to try and obtain them myself!"

Yes, you deserve proper sanitation for hygiene and human dignity, but breaking your neighbour's toilet isn't going to give you a better toilet. That's like throwing your neighbour's food into the rubbish because you're hungry and then saying someone else should give you more food: you could have shared what you had but you'd rather everyone be miserable because you're somehow special and if you can't have something then nobody can but you're not even going to try and get it yourself.

</rant>

Sorry, this probably has nothing to do with labour-related protests.

Right now I am alternating between writing furiously, searching through my sources for quotable passages, installing various malware scanners and running them, and the usual Internet crawling.
